What is Schlotzsky’s Signature Sauce?

Curious about what Schlotzsky’s signature sauce actually is? Let me tell you in simple terms. Schlotzsky’s signature sauce is a flavorsome condiment that adds extreme flavor to your sandwich and pizza. Even a flat piece of bread may turn tasty with this sauce.

If you love your sauce to be creamy and tangy, this recipe is definitely for you. This sauce has a perfect balance of sweetness and spice. It is a moderately hellacious, Louisiana-style hot sauce. Schlotzsky’s signature sauce is like one sauce for all as it goes well with a wide variety of dishes.

Schlotzsky’s Signature Sauce Ingredients

In Schlotzsky’s signature sauce recipe, we used simple ingredients. By varying the measurements, you can make it as mild or as hot as you want. If you are a hot sauce lover like me, brace your breath and know the 6 simple ingredients with me.

Cayenne Peppers:

The first and signature ingredient to mention in this recipe is cayenne peppers. Cayenne pepper is a kind of chili pepper used to spice up dishes. It is moderately hot in nature. Louisiana cayenne pepper is used in the signature sauce recipe. But you can use any variety available to you. 500gm fresh cayenne pepper is used in our recipe.

Mayonnaise:

If you are a mayonnaise lover, you’ll enjoy the taste of Schlotzsky’s signature sauce. The cold, creamy mayo gives the sauce more depth. You can use your favorite store-bought mayonnaise or go for homemade ones. ½ cup mayonnaise is needed in the recipe.

Distilled Vinegar:

Vinegar is the most commonly found ingredient in hot sauces. As its nature is to make anything hot and sour, it does the same with our signature sauce. The acidic flavor of vinegar helps to balance out the sweetness of honey used. 3 cups of distilled white vinegar are used in the recipe.

Salt:

Salt is the most common flavoring agent, isn’t it? Apart from adding the salty flavor, salt also enhances other active flavors in our sauce. It balances the bitterness of vinegar. 1 teaspoon of salt is used in the recipe.

Garlic:

Garlic is a powerful herb both for its taste and aroma. It is used to attach complexity to the flavor of the sauce. Apart from that it has many health benefits. 7-8 cloves of fresh garlic are used in Schlotzsky’s garlic sauce.

Honey:

Do you prefer honey over sugar in your recipes? Honey enriches and adds sweetness to our Schlotzsky sauce recipe. It’s a natural substitute for sugar and has antibacterial properties. 5 tablespoons of honey will be enough to balance the tangy flavor of the sauce.

How To Make Schlotzsky’s Signature Sauce?

Isn’t it interesting that a hot sauce is made in such a way that is so perfect even for breakfast? Our Schlotzsky’s signature sauce has a tangy, lime kind of aroma. It’s strong, vinegary, salty, and harsh from the use of cayenne pepper. But not as harsh as other hot sauces to upset your taste buds.

Now that we know all the necessary ingredients, let’s learn about the simple and amazing recipe together. Trust me you’ll love it!

Step 1:

Put 500 gm of fresh cayenne pepper in a large saucepan. Add 2 cups of vinegar and 7-8 cloves of fresh garlic. Close the lid of the pan as the smell may be bitter. Boil it in medium flame for 15 minutes.

Step 2:

After 15 minutes turn off the gas and let it cool down. The cayenne pepper is soft and moist by now. Blend it well into a thick paste-like texture.

Step 3:

Put the blended cayenne pepper in the saucepan and turn on the flame. Add 1 cup vinegar, ½ cup mayonnaise, 1 teaspoon salt, and 5 tablespoons of organic honey. Stir on a medium flame for 10 minutes. Your cooking part is done. Oh, the smell! Sweet and bitter and creamy at the same time!

Step 4:

When the sauce cools down, strain it with your regular strainer. And your Schlotzsky’s signature sauce is ready to serve. Enjoy it with your sandwich, breakfast egg, sausage, or whatever you like. Even I dip potato chips into it.
