Jeff Mauro Cheese Sauce Recipe

Jeff Mauro Cheese Sauce Recipe Ingredients:

Swiss sauce is made with processed cheese, butter, and some needed herbs. Its functionality is numerous in cooking and baking. However, in our Jeff Mauro cheese sauce recipe, I used a few cheap and readily available ingredients.

Butter, Cheese, and cans of evaporated milk are found in everyone’s pantry.  Let’s know the ingredients in detail:

Swiss Cheese:

Want that restaurant-like creaminess in your Swiss cheese sauce? Swiss cheese is the key ingredient in our recipe. It is a yellow, medium-hard cheese originated in Switzerland. Use 100g of grated Swiss cheese in the recipe.

White American Cheese:

White American cheese is a processed cheese made with different types of cheese. It has a nice salty, creamy flavor and melts easily. Use 100g of diced white American cheese in the recipe.

Salted Butter:

Butter is the kitchen-king that makes everything better. It is usually made from churned cream and used in baking, cooking, as a condiment, and whatnot! Use 100g of salted butter in the recipe.

Evaporated Milk:

Evaporated milk is an unsweetened version of condensed milk. It is used to add richness and creaminess to both sweet and at the same time savory recipes. 2 cups of evaporated milk works as a base for our Jeff mauro cheese sauce.

Garlic:

Garlic is a powerful herb that has a spicy, pungent taste. I grated 2 Garlic cloves and used them in our Swiss cheese sauce.

Kosher salt:

Kosher salt is mainly used as a seasoning and in rubs, or sauces. It’s a healthier option than table salt. I used 1/2 teaspoon of kosher salt in the recipe.

Black Pepper:

Black pepper has a unique aroma and bitter taste. It intensifies the complexity of flavors. Use 1 teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper in the Jeff Mauro cheese sauce.

Dijon Mustard:

Dijon mustard is a mustard- base prepared with black or brown mustard and white wine. It has a strong aroma and inherent bitterness. Use 1 teaspoon of Dijon mustard in the recipe.

How To Make Cheesesteak Sauce:

If you’re also a cheese lover like me, then you’ll end up using this cheese sauce in almost every recipe you make, from the base for a sandwich to a dip for your crackers. Today I’ll tell you how to make this perfect crowd-pleasing Jeff Mauro cheese sauce at home in simple steps.

Step 1:

Put a medium pan on the stove. Melt the butter on low flame.

Step 2:

Mix Swiss cheese, cornstarch, grated garlic, and Dijon mustard in a bowl.

Step 3:

Next, add both the cheese mixture and grated cheese to the pan. Keep whisking until smooth, and the ice melts. Keep the flame low.

Step 4:

Add evaporated milk and boil until the preferred thickness comes. Season with salt, and pepper and serve warm.

Recipe Tips & Notes:

  • Wondering about how thick your cheese sauce should be?  Dip a spoon into the sauce and bring it out, the cheese should cling to the spoon and slide off quickly.
  • Need suggestions about what to dip in? Serve this Chickie and Pete’s cheese sauce with fries, sauteed vegetables, garlic bread, nachos, tacos, and whatnot!
  • You can store it in a dry, airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
  • Also, you can store it in the freezer for 2-3  months. Fully thaw it in the microwave and serve warm.
  • You can sprinkle some mixed herbs into your Chickie and Pete’s cheese sauce for your preferred flavor.
  • Feel free to use unsalted butter instead of salted butter if you prefer. Adjust the salt accordingly.
  • I prefer full cream milk as the fat is needed to make the sauce creamy.
  • Don’t skip American white cheese, unless you’ll miss the authentic taste of Jeff Mauro cheese sauce.
  • The sauce will form a thin layer on the surface while at rest. Gently stir it before use.
  • If you like your cheesesteak sauce spicier, you can use hot sauce, paprika, oregano, etc. I didn’t want to overwhelm the original flavor of cheese. So I skipped them.
  • Finally, be careful while using salt, as cheese and butter have salt content in them.
