Hawaiian Spice Blend Ingredients:
Missing the fresh and simple island flavors in your BBQ? Why spend dollars for store-bought ones when you can make one at home? The Hawaiian dry rub recipe is simple and requires no cooking.
It is versatile enough to complement smoked ribs, pork shoulder, chicken wings, or salmon filets. The list will be longer than you can imagine. Let’s know about the ingredients you’ll need to enjoy a Hawaiian sparkle from the comfort of your home:
Chili Powder:
Chili powder is a dried and powdered mix of different chili peppers. It can be mild to very spicy depending on the varieties used. 1 tablespoon of chili powder makes our dry rub savory.
Cumin Powder:
Cumin powder pairs very well with chili powder. Combinedly they deliver a nice warming flavor that enhances the flavors of grilled meat. 1 teaspoon of cumin powder is used in the recipe.
Smoked Paprika:
Smoked paprika gives BBQ meat a nice smokiness with a hint of sweetness. It enhances the taste of savory dishes. I used 2 tablespoons of smoked paprika in the recipe.
Kosher Salt:
Kosher salt has a larger grain size than table salt. So, it is more suitable for use in dry rubs. Use 1 tablespoon of kosher salt in the Hawaiian dry rub recipe.
Brown Sugar:
Brown sugar is the one ingredient that you can’t skip while making BBQ rub. It helps to tenderize the meat and gives a caramelized effect. 3 tablespoons of dark brown sugar make our Hawaiian rub rich and flavorful.
Black Pepper:
Black pepper has a complex flavor profile. The bitterness of black pepper goes well with the flavors of BBQ meat. Use 1 teaspoon of coarse black pepper in our dry rub recipe.
Garlic & Onion Powder:
Garlic and onion powder are used in sauces, seasonings, and rubs to add spiciness and intense flavor. Both of them have their unique flavors and aroma. I used 1 teaspoon of both.
Soy Sauce powder:
Soy sauce powder is dehydrated soy sauce used in dry rubs. The taste is the same as the liquid one. 1 tablespoon of soy sauce powder makes our Hawaiian seasoning full of umami, salty, and earthy flavors.
How To Make Hawaiian Pork Rub?
Want your BBQ meat crispy outside but delicious inside? Using dry rubs is the most convenient way to have this outcome. BBQ rubs are made with dry spices and herbs to rub directly on raw meat.
This technique spices up the meat and seals the moisture inside. Our Hawaiian dry rub is spicy with chili pepper, and smokey with paprika. Also, It has a hint of sweetness from brown sugar. It elevates the taste of ribs, pork, wings, fish, veggies, and whatnot! Let’s jump to the simple directions:
Step 1:
Take a dry container. Put all the ingredients one after another. Use measuring spoons for accurate measurement.
Step 2:
Shake the container very well until all the spices are evenly mixed. Use a fork to even out lumps, if any. Your Hawaiian-style BBQ dry rub is ready to rock your BBQ world.
Step 3:
Wipe off excess moisture from the ribs with a paper towel. Apply a generous amount of dry rub to coat the ribs from all sides. Wrap and refrigerate for 2 to 12 hours, and then they are ready for grilling or smoking.
