Espresso Dry Rub Recipe

Coffee Spice Rub Ingredients:

Do you know what the best way to add flavor and texture to BBQ meat is? Definitely, it’s the use of dry rubs. The right choice of rub will intensify the original flavors of meat and give you the ultimate BBQ experience.

Espresso powder is the out-of-the-box ingredient in today’s Espresso dry rub recipe. Apart from that, you’ll need some other easily found spices. Basically, our coffee dry rub is a blend of ten amazing ingredients. Let’s know the ingredients in detail:

Espresso Powder:

Espresso powder is a fine powder of coffee beans used in baking and spice rubs. Instant espresso powder is milder than ground coffee. Use ½ cup of instant Espresso Powder in the coffee dry rub recipe.

Black Pepper:

Black pepper has a strong and unique flavor. It gives the needed heat to the savory recipes. Use 1 tablespoon of freshly crushed black pepper in the coffee rub.

Ancho Chili Powder:

Ancho Chili powder is Ancho chilies smoked and crushed into fine powder. ½ cup of Ancho chili powder not only gives our dry rub a bright red color but also provides the desired spiciness.

Ginger Powder:

Dried ginger powder is sweet, spicy, and pungent. 1 teaspoon of ginger powder adds intense flavors to our espresso dry rub recipe.

Brown Sugar:

Dark brown sugar makes this Espresso steak rub better than ever. Add ½ cup of dark brown sugar to take your rub recipe to the next level.

Smoked Paprika:

Smoked Paprika is made from dried and smoked red chilies. 3 tablespoons of smoked paprika will make our spicy coffee rub spicy enough for steaks.

Garlic Powder:

Garlic powder is a powerful spice with unique flavors. It is used to enhance the taste of savory recipes. Use 1 tablespoon in the coffee rub for the chicken recipe.

Yellow Mustard Powder:

Mustard seeds have a slightly bitter flavor. You’ll need 1 teaspoon of yellow mustard powder for this Espresso coffee dry rub recipe.

Kosher Salt:

Kosher salt is considered healthier than table salt and has a coarse texture. Use 1 tablespoon of Kosher salt.

Ground Cumin:

Cumin is a must-use spice in all kinds of meat recipes. It has a slightly sweet flavor with some heat and a unique savory aroma. 1 teaspoon ground cumin adds richness to our homemade coffee rub for steaks.

How To Make Dry Rub?

Wondering if Espresso rub tastes like coffee? Actually, it doesn’t. The earthiness of coffee complements the original flavor of meat. But it doesn’t overwhelm the remaining flavors from other spices.

Espresso dry rub is a spicy and sweet coffee-based rub made with Espresso powder, brown sugar, and Ancho chili powder. Do you love to mix up spices and prepare something new? This recipe is nothing more than that. You can prepare this at home in less than five minutes.

So without further delay, Let’s jump into the easy directions.

Step 1:

Measure and gather all the ingredients in a clean, dry bowl. Mix them well with the use of a fork. Brown sugar may have lumps in it. Use dry hands to even out the lumps if necessary.

Step 2:

Wipe off moisture out of the steak. Brush a little olive oil on both sides. Now add our coffee dry rub generously. Coat both sides very well.

Step 3:

Wrap the steaks with foil paper. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour and then grill or smoke according to your preference. Your delicious smoky steaks are ready to wow the guests.

Notes

Store coffee spice rub in an airtight container. It will remain fresh for up to two months. Use it instantly whenever you crave grilled meat.
You can double or triple the measurement for a larger batch.
Brush the ribs with olive oil before adding the rub. Coat both sides with the coffee rub by gently pressing the ribs.
You can adjust the heat by using more or less chili powder.
I prefer Ancho chili with Espresso coffee but you can use Cayenne pepper or Chipotle powder instead.
Use on brisket, steak, tri-tip, ribs, or whatever you like. It goes well with any meat.
Use instant Espresso powder as the bold raw coffee turns bitter while grilling.
