Gringo's Green Sauce Recipe

Copycat Gringo Dip Ingredients:

Our Gringo’s green sauce recipe needs ingredients that are already available in your pantry. The combination of avocados, sour cream, and fresh jalapenos makes the sauce vibrant, bold, and irresistible. Some added spices give the sauce such uniqueness that is hard to match.

Avocado:

Avocados have a creamy texture with nutty and subtle sweet taste. It is used in many sweet, savory recipes even in beverages. I used 5 sliced Avocados to make our Gringo sauce rich and creamy.

Tomatillos:

Green Tomatillos have a unique tangy and citrusy flavor that freshens up the taste of any recipe. When roasted they give a nice smokey flavor to the sauce. Add 3-4 freshly husked and rinsed tomatillos to give our Gringo sauce a fascinating green color.

Sour Cream:

Want some extra creaminess? Sour cream has a milky and slightly tangy flavor. The acidic flavor of the sour cream balances other flavors in the sauce. 2 cups of sour cream would be enough.

Green Chilies:

Green chilies are packed with vitamin C and can be mild to very spicy. You’ll need ½ cup of diced Green Chilies for our Gringo’s sauce recipe.

Fresh Cilantro Leaf:

Are you also a cilantro lover? I just love the refreshing citrusy flavor of cilantro leaves. And put it in almost everything. However, for this recipe, I used ½ cup of chopped Cilantro leaves.

Sea Salt:

Sea salt is considered healthier than table salt. Use 1 teaspoon of sea salt or according to your taste.

Jalapenos Pepper:

Want to make your Gringo’s green sauce super spicy? Green jalapeno peppers can be a good option for you. Use 2 chopped Jalapeno peppers or more if you want more heat.

Lemon Juice:

The distinct sour taste of lemon juice makes our green sauce tangy. Add 1 teaspoon of lemon juice to balance out all the flavors.

Garlic & Onion powder:

Garlic and onion powder are powerful spices and both have unique flavors. These are used to enhance the taste of savory recipes. Use ½ teaspoon of both in the recipe.

Sugar:

A little touch of sweetness makes savory recipes better than ever. Add 1 teaspoon of sugar to take our Gringo sauce to the next level.

Black Pepper:

Black pepper has a strong and unique flavor. It gives the needed heat to the savory recipes. Use ½ teaspoon of freshly crushed black pepper in the Gringo sauce.

  • 1 Teaspoon Sea salt
  • 2 Chopped Jalapeno peppers
  • 1 Teaspoon Lemon juice
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Onion powder
  • 1/2 Teaspoon  Garlic powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Sugar
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Freshly ground Black pepper

Instructions

  • Peel, slice, and chop all the fresh ingredients. Put aside.
  • Take a blender. Put fresh ingredients and sour cream. Blend smoothly for 1 minute.
  • Now, Put all the remaining ingredients and blend for a few seconds. Your Gringo’s green sauce is ready to serve.

Notes

Try to use ripe avocados for a smooth, silky sauce. Unripe avocados don’t blend easily.
Full-fat sour cream gives the sauce texture like the original, but you can also use a lower-fat version.
If you want your sauce extra creamy, add 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise. It also adds tanginess and a little sweetness. I personally don’t like mayonnaise so I skipped the use of it.
Remove seeds and ribs of jalapeno peppers, if you want your sauce mildly spicy.
You can keep it in the freezer for months. Thaw completely before use. Add 1 tablespoon of sour cream if the sauce gets runny.
Make sure to use the lemon juice. It keeps the color of the sauce intact for a longer time.
