Japanese chili spice can be used as seasoning, marinades, rubs, and salad dressings. This spice blend enhances any dish, whether it’s of Japanese origin or not. Let’s know the 7 ingredients in detail:
Sichuan peppercorns:
Sichuan peppercorn is the star ingredient in this recipe. These are Chinese chili peppers used in savory recipes. It has a citrusy flavor along with spiciness. I used 1 teaspoon of Sichuan peppercorns in the recipe.
Orange Peel:
Want to add a little tangy kick to the Togarashi seasoning? Use 1 teaspoon of dried orange peel to make the dry rub bright and citrusy.
Red Chili Flakes:
Red chili flakes are moderately spicy with an earthy note. 2 tablespoons of red chili flakes give our Tokyo Douglas rub a ruby-red color and spiciness.
Black Sesame Seeds:
Black sesame seeds are bitter to taste with a hidden sweetness. It’s unique in taste and aroma. 1 teaspoon of black sesame seed makes our dry rub rich and warm.
Ground Ginger:
Ground ginger is milder than fresh ginger. It’s sweet, spicy, and pungent at the same time. Use 1 teaspoon in the recipe.
Nori Roasted Seaweed:
Nori seaweed has a salty, fishy taste. 1 teaspoon of Nori roasted seaweed makes our Shichimi seasoning savory and sweet.
Smoked Paprika:
Smoked paprika adds smokiness and depth to the dry rubs and marinades. 1 teaspoon of red hot smoked paprika is used in the Japanese chili spice recipe.
Coriander Seeds:
Coriander seeds are lightly sweet and have a unique warming aroma. I used 1 teaspoon in the recipe.
Salt:
Salt balances all the other flavors. 1 teaspoon of salt would be enough for the recipe.
