Turkey Rub Recipe

Roasted Turkey Seasoning Ingredients:

Want to transform your regular turkey into something extraordinary? Turkey rub is a mixture of some chosen spices, herbs, salt, and sugar. Our DIY all-purpose Turkey rub infuses just the perfect amount of heat and spice into your Turkey roast.

It’ll please your taste buds without overwhelming the natural flavors of Turkey. Let’s know the ingredients of this simple 5-minute recipe.

Roasted Turkey Seasoning Ingredients

Chili Powder:

Chili powder is a blend of dried chiles, salt, and some other savory spices. It is moderately spicy,  just enough to provide flavor. Use 2 tablespoons of Chili powder in the recipe.

Smoked Paprika:

Smoked paprika adds smokiness to the meat without being smoked. Use ¼ cup of smoked paprika to make our spice rub rich with flavors.

Garlic & Onion Powder:

Garlic and onion powder are dehydrated and granulated versions of those used to enhance the taste of the rub. 1 teaspoon of both will be enough for this recipe.

Brown Sugar:

A touch of sweetness is divine with the smoky flavors of roasted Turkey. Add ¼ cup of brown sugar to our Turkey rub recipe for a nice crust on Turkey skin.

Cayenne Pepper:

Cayenne pepper gives heat and spice to our dry rub recipe. Use 1 tablespoon of cayenne pepper, or more if you like extremely spicy.

Black Pepper:

Freshly ground black pepper will provide the most robust flavors to the Turkey roast. Use ¼ cup of black pepper in our easy Turkey rub recipe.

Dried Thyme:

Dried thyme is a peppery and earthy herb. ½ teaspoon of dried thyme gives warmth to our roasted Turkey seasoning.

Sage:

Sage has a mint-like citrusy flavor. Use ½ teaspoon of sage to add a citrusy note to the recipe.

Rosemary:

Rosemary works combined with thyme and sage to give a warming effect. Use ½ teaspoon in the recipe.

Kosher Salt:

Salt is the magical ingredient that makes any recipe complete. ¼ cup kosher salt will work to tenderize the meat so all the other flavors may get in.

How To Make Spice Rub For Turkey:

How To Make Spice Rub For Turkey

Why make Turkey rub when you can buy a readymade seasoning packet? It gives you the luxury of customizing the heat and spices to your taste buds. It’ll turn a regular Turkey roast into something extraordinary. It’s also good on pork, beef, and chicken.

This spicy homemade turkey rub recipe is simple yet delicious, you’ll end up putting it on everything! You can easily double or triple the ingredients and make a big batch. Just follow the simple step-by-step directions and save dollars!

Step 1:

Take a small bowl. Put all the ingredients as per the given measurement. Whisk together until well mixed. Even out lumps with a fork. Your homemade Turkey rub is ready to spice up your Turkey roast.

Step 2:

Use it instantly or store it in a dry, airtight container. It can also be used in chicken, beef ribs, briskets, pork, and vegetables.

Step 3:

Rinse and dry your Turkey with a paper towel. Use olive oil or butter on the Turkey skin. Then rub the turkey seasoning thoroughly into the turkey, covering underneath the skin and inside the bird’s cavity.

Wrap and refrigerate for at least one hour. The longer you allow it to sit, the more spices can penetrate inside. After that, grill, smoke, or bake.

Recipe Tips & Notes:

  • Serve your roasted Turkey with baked potatoes, sauteed vegetables, and salad. Your guests will forever remember this wholesome dinner.
  • Store it in an airtight container away from sunlight and moisture. It’ll remain fresh for up to 3 months. After that, it’ll start losing some flavor and get clumpy.
  • If you want to store longer, you can freeze your Turkey rub. Transfer it into a sealed zip bag, and then store it in the freezer. I won’t recommend freezing it. As the spice rub definitely loses some flavors when frozen.
  • This dry rub will work on any meat. Smoke, grill, or bake, this rub is suitable for all.
  • Add 1 additional teaspoon of Cayenne pepper if you like your rub spicier.
  • Smoked paprika gives a nice smokiness. That’s why I’d recommend using smoked paprika instead of a sweet or regular one.
  • You can use white sugar too. But brown sugar is coarse and has a tenderizing effect on meat which is its best for rubs.
  • Use fresh spices to help with the authentic flavors and longevity of the rub.
  • The recipe makes just enough rub for a 10-15 pound Turkey. You can easily double or triple the batch according to your needs.
